Traditionally, Alutiiq people hunted whales as a source of food. Today we enjoy watching their magnificence as they migrate to the Kodiak Archipelago each summer to feed.

Alaska Advantage Programs
The Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) is committed to promoting, supporting, and providing access to postsecondary education for Alaskans.

Alaska Aerospace Development Corporation (AADC)
AADC has established a scholarship program through the University of Alaska (UA) Foundation for college freshman seeking a four-year degree in the University of Alaska system.  Graduating seniors from Alaskan high schools can apply for a $5,000 scholarship to pursue a degree in math, physics, engineering, business or a technical science field such as computer science.  These scholarships can be used at any University of Alaska campus throughout the state.  Previous recipients can apply to renew their scholarships annually, depending upon the availability of funds.

American University’s Washington Internships for Native Students (WINS)
The Washington Internships for Native Students (WINS) provides an opportunity for Alaskan Native students to live in Washington, D.C., gain professional work experience through an internship, and earn academic credits. 

CIRI Foundation – Education Resources Handbook
Cook Inlet Region, Inc (CIRI ) Foundation published the Education Resources Handbook annually which provides tips on planning and contains listings of scholarship and grant opportunities. 

Cook Inlet Tribal Council
Grant Program helps eligible Alaska Natives, American Indians and Native Hawaiians residing within the Cook Inlet Region obtain short-term certification or vocational training for job enhancement and/or employability.

Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the Web
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the first step in the financial aid process.  Use it to apply for federal student financial aid, such as Pell Grant, student loans, and college work-study.  In addition, most states and schools use FAFSA information to award their financial aid.  For introductory instructions on how to complete the FAFSA online or on paper go to Completing the FAFSA.

First Alaskans Institute
First Alaskans Institute works to advance Alaska Natives through community engagement, information and research, collaboration, and leadership development.

Gates Millennium Scholars
The Gates Millennium Scholars was established in 1999 to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential.

Gillam Foundation
One-year scholarships available to graduating Alaska high school seniors who are pursuing a career in global commerce and attending a four-year university full-time.  Typical awards will range from $5,000 to $10,000.

Harvard Tuition Announcement
Parents with incomes of less than $60,000 will no longer be expected to contribute to the cost of their children attending Harvard.  In addition, Harvard will reduce the contributions of families with incomes between $60,000 and $80,000.

Indian Resource Development Program
At the Indian Resource Development Program, students are encouraged to obtain baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate degrees in Agriculture, Business, Engineering, Math, and other science-related degrees.  It is expected that the student will be able to contribute to the development and the management of tribal and state resources, government, and/or private sector.

Koniag Education Foundation
KEF provides scholarships and grants to Koniag, Inc. shareholders and their descendants who are seeking education after high school.

Native Village of Port Lions
The Rhea May Knagin scholarship is available to any enrolled member of the Native Village of Port Lions who is seeking a higher education in Alaska.  Please note that the number of scholarships are dependent on available funds.
